The Bravery

This is the part where Miss Beauregarde realized how little of the Bravery’s music she actually knows. I know the entire album The Sun and The Moon and that’s pretty much it.  “Believe” was as good as I’d remembered and it was very much the same quality as was on the album track. Their set felt like Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” as there were sounds coming out from everywhere. The keyboards were synth one minute and then played straight the next.

Try a Little Tenderness

(Oh and the lead singer was wearing a Duckie hat… just so you know.) As was true of the music on The Sun and The Moon, the Bravery writes some wicked interesting lyrics. Here are two that I wrote down during the concert.

“You put the broke in brokenhearted. You put the art in retarded.” – Public Service Announcement

“Raise your glass in salutation, we drink to our annihilation.” – I Have Seen the Future

“Two in the box! Ready to go! We be fast and they be slow!”

The song “Jack O’ Lantern Man,” from the new album Stir The Blood, makes my head run around in the second season of the television show Supernatural. “Someday when push comes to shove, we’ll see who’s nothing then.” Being in the Supernatural fandom is nothing new for me with this band as that’s how I discovered them in the first place. Yay for discovering music in odd places!

The stand out moments of this set have to be “Time Won’t Let Me Go” and the encore performance of “The Ocean”. “Time,” while containing some vocal jumping that was a bit off-putting, was a wonderful showcase for the lead guitar and such an enjoyable song to hear performed live. The star, for me anyway, was “The Ocean”… a song I didn’t even really like on the album. The version they played at the show was a much harder version of the song and I’m glad to say that I found the remix for because it was so much better!

“Above and Below,” my favorite song by the Bravery, wasn’t played but all in all, I really enjoyed their set. The band had a advance buy meet and greet after the show for their new cd and I really enjoyed speaking with their bassist and drummer as they were funny guys who didn’t make fun of me when I babbled on like an idiot for loving The Sun and The Moon.

What Moh Green has been able to accomplish thus far gives an excellent example of motivation!  He believes in momentum and is consistantly working to grow and improve, oftentimes dovetailing and overlapping previous efforts.

Born in Atlanta to a single mother who was quite active in the theater, he was introduced to the performing arts and music at a very early age.  That experience backed by his involvement in the family’s church, helped to develop the confident, ‘tell it like it is’ delivery.  The church is also where he began playing drums and piano, which ultimately morphed into a gifted producer.  Visually talented as well, his ability to draw dramatically grew in to graphic design and photography.

Not new to the scene, Moh made many appearances with his long time hip hop band, PHACE ORICALZ, in and around the southeast.  Holding true to the Motivated frame of mind and spirit, Moh handles the bulk of booking, recording, production, marketing and promotion for the band.  A jack of most trades musical and artistic, his desire to express himself resulted in his debut solo effort, ‘MOH TIVATED’. A series of stories, thought provoking conversations, and soulful speaker satifying beats, MOH TIVATED is music for the movement!

so it started out on tuesday at a pizza spot near Georgia Tech, and I got a chance to sit down for a few and chat with MC Wyzsztyk, greatly known as Mister Wizard, and his lovely Lady Friend, as he gave me an idea of how dope his group is….then I got to see them perform live at the 91.1 FM radio stage in the student center, with ….now THAT was pretty dope!

Here is Psyche Origami and their first major video, directed by Dosa Kim. Its the hit single, “Nuff Teef”, off their debut album, “Is Ellipsis.”

But the best part….the best part? It was catchin a glimpse of Psyche Origami, Live, of course, but complete with the mega-set….the Psyche Origami Orchestra!

I’m talkin a full complement….Kevin Vines a cool fella wickedly talented on a bass, Earl Williams, a brother I got to speak to for awhile from NY on tenor sax, dope ass Chris Morgan on the keys,  this guy Mike Belluso, whom, might I add, can make some of the illest sounds with his guitar…..fuckin dope, Tanner Dorheim another great one keepin it in the pocket on the drums,  and with awesome backup vocals and the coolest stage presence ever you got Alberto Lares.

I just wish I could have seen those guys perform again last Thursday at the Drunken Unicorn….I mean…for real, these guys opened for De La Soul! How much is necessary to incite any less curiousity?
