The cyclorama is housed in a museum, also called the &#8220;Atlanta Cyclorama&#8221;, in Grant Park in Atlanta, Georgia. Visitors view the cylindrical painting from the inside, entering through an entrance in the floor. After being seated, the central cylinder rotates slowly affording a view of the entire painting. The painting at one time was the largest oil painting in the world, and if unrolled would measure 42 feet high by 358 feet long. It held this record until 2004, when it was surpassed in size by a mural at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo measuring 32 feet high by 800 feet long.</p>

<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">The Spelman College Museum of Fine Art is located in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Academic Center that was dedicated in 1996. The Center was built in honor of the wife of Dr. William H. Cosby, the world-renowned television star and comedian. The exhibition area of 4,500 square feet features high ceilings, warm cherry wood floors and a flexible space with eleven movable walls. Museum visitors can take advantage of a gift shop and video-viewing area. The Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Center also houses the Women&#8217;s Research and Resource Center, archives, a media center, classrooms and academic departmental offices.</div>

They are open everyday but Sundays. Mondays, holidays, and Spelman College breaks.</div>

Museum visitors can take advantage of a gift shop and video-viewing area. The Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Center also houses the Women&#8217;s Research and Resource Center, archives, a media center, classrooms and academic departmental offices.</p>
<p>Now, though there is no admission to visit the museum, there is a &#8220;suggested donation&#8221; of $3.00 per person, and, of course, all contributions are welcomed. They are open everyday but Sundays. Mondays, holidays, and Spelman College breaks.</p>

We exhibit the work of consequential artists from local, regional, national, and international art scenes, creating in various media, and exploring a broad range of content. We pay particular attention to artists who have not had significant exhibitions in the Southeast. Our public programs include talks, lectures, panel discussions, workshops, screenings, tours, and events which foster appreciation and understanding in diverse audiences. In addition to our programming, the Contemporary supports working artists by providing studio space at reasonable rates, fostering a collaborative environment supportive of the creative process.</div>

<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">In 2008, Corin Hewitt built a workshop at the Whitney Museum of American Art for the purpose of investigating methods and  procedures of harvesting, consuming, building, documenting, and recycling. Based in this combination of science lab, test kitchen, and art studio, he performed the hybrid role of sculptor/photographer for months, moving between various two- and three-dimensional activities. He grew vegetables, prepared food and consumed it, read books, built tabletop tableaus with an assortment of organic and commercial materials, took photographs, and printed them out. Images that were deemed exhibition-worthy were displayed on the museum walls, others were cut, stacked, incorporated into new assemblages and re-photographed, or composted along with fruit rinds and other scraps.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Hewitt’s work has always thrived on base matter transformed by conceptual strategies and personal narratives. As his exhibition title implies, he sees the making process as developmental and performative. The Contemporary presents the color photographs that were the result of the artist’s dedicated studio gestures at the Whitney. They are lush vanitas images that speak to cycles of life and art that are in constant flux.</div>
<div id="_mcePaste" style="position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow-x: hidden; overflow-y: hidden;">Hewitt lives and works in New York. The 2009 book, WEAVINGS, published by J&amp;L Books, documents Hewitt’s sculpture/photography project at Small a Projects, Portland, OR.</div>
